Inventory & Warehouse Management System

Develop a 3-tier Client/Server-based ERP system to migrate operations from a mainframe platform.

The Inventory & Warehouse Management System is a robust, integrated set of applications used to manage the inventory supply chain, customer support, and warehouse operations in the 325,000 sq. ft. distribution facility.

The Customer Order Processing Module receives and processes orders from three sources (Extranet web-site, CRM application, and built-in order entry screens). Within seconds of entry, available inventory is allocated and the order is assigned to the fulfillment center for processing.

The Order Fulfillment Module is integrated with a facility-wide conveyor system. Each order is assigned to a bar-coded tote; the tote is placed on a conveyor, and tracked as they flow within the facility. Totes containing a pick request are auto-detoured at the appropriate pick station (warehouse zone), a scan of the barcode triggers the pick process to occur. Orders are picked until complete and then flow via the conveyor to a verification / pack / ship station where the shipping tracking number is captured in the database. A file is uploaded to the main system, confirming order fulfillment, adjusting inventory, and providing information to properly invoice for the shipment.

The Inventory Receiving Module is automated in similar fashion. Files are retrieved from the Purchase Order table and used to support the physical receipt of vendor shipments. Results are uploaded to the main system in order to increment inventory and adjust purchase order files.

Other Inventory System features include: an extensive inventory reorder program, EDI (to send PO details to vendors, receive PO confirmation and PO shipping details from vendors), specialized queries and daily, weekly, and monthly reports, various maintenance tables (customer, product, vendor, price schedule, etc).

Other WMS features include: a space management capability to control bin location assignments, heavy use of bar code technology to minimize human interface / error, and a work in-process tracking module.
